Both vehicles are in immaculate condition, original down to the white-walled tires and sumptuous leather interiors. Mercedes Benz. The Best.
The S-Class sedan (W108, W109) was manufactured from 1965-1972. The W108 and its more luxurious sibling the W109 were created by the legendary designer Paul Bracq. Their famous front ends with the tall grille and stacked quad headlights are among Mercedes’ most recognizable and beloved designs to this day. Powered by a six cylinder 2.5L gasoline engine generating 140hp. Total production of the model 280S was almost 400,000 units and were popular in the North American and South-East Asian export markets. The vehicle was an amazing success, mostly, due its simple and classic contours. The W108 offered unique styling mixed with something Mercedes would thrive on for generations, rock solid reliability. The Mercedes Benz 280S had a knack for ticking well past the competition, making them one of the most beloved models. With its unique design and styling, the 280S has enduring class and timeless charm – proof of excellent German engineering.
The W108 line, which included the 280S, was larger than its fintailed predecessor. The W108 was conceived as a more modern replacement for the Heckflosse cars which had quickly become dated-looking thanks to their now-iconic fins. The W108 had a bigger greenhouse, sleeker lines, more interior space, and more powerful six-cylinder engines. The W109, almost identical to the W108 featured an extended wheelbase of 115mm and self-leveling air suspension. Bracq’s design was elegant and restrained in keeping with Mercedes’ refined style at the time. Its success as a “premium flagship” car convinced Daimler to add a long-wheelbase car to the model range. From that point on, all future S-class models would feature a long-wheelbase variant. The cleanliness of the lines still looks as perfect today as they did when the cars were new. The 280S model Mercedes Benz is the same as owned and driven by Elvis. As well, a bright orange model featured in the 1978 movie classic The Driver.
